Dear Candidate:
Election time is a time
for re-examining and focusing on important issues. If elected, you will be in a prime position
to address one of our state’s most significant problems – the poor health of
our citizens and their need for quality health care. These issues are the primary focus of the
Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives (KCNPNM). Ours is a professional organization
representing nurse practitioners and nurse midwives in Kentucky who work to
promote health and to provide the highest quality health care for all
Kentuckians.
Nurse practitioners
(NPs) and nurse midwives (NMs) provide health care to patients across the Commonwealth of Kentucky in urban, suburban, and rural
areas. They provide health care services in primary care clinics, private
offices, nursing homes, patients’ homes, mental health centers, veterans’
clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms and in many other locations.
As you are aware,
Kentuckians have some of the highest rates of cancer, lung disease, diabetes, heart
disease, and disabilities in the country. As the election draws near, we are
hearing more and more concerns regarding access to health care services for
Kentuckians. This is an important focus for NPs and NMs and for Kentucky’s voters.
In order to keep NPs,
NMs, nurses, nurse educators - and their patients - better informed on the
views of Kentucky’s legislative candidates regarding health care, the KCNPNM
has developed a short questionnaire which we ask that you complete and return
to us. Your responses will be widely disseminated to all the nursing groups, to
their patients and to health advocates via the KCNPNM web site and newsletter,
by the Kentucky Nurses Association, and in student nurse practitioner
newsletters. There is the potential of your views on health care reaching over
70,000 licensed nurses! |
