We now have final word from KBN. April 10, 2017

At this time, there will be no Kentucky regulations promulgated regarding prescribing of
buprenorphine

. Therefore, the federal law will be the rule that must be followed. I am copying below information from Pam Hagan at KBN. Also, AANP has a course that will meet the requirements for any NPs who wish to prescribe buprenorphine

The federal requirements are:

  • Obtain 24 contact hours
  • Collaborative agreement with a physician who has met the same requirements (education, DEA waiver) ---might mean an additional CAPA-CS. DEA will ask for collaborative agreement before issuing the card
  • DEA registration to obtain the MAT waiver ( DEAx) – provide copy to KBN
  • Prescribing within the prescribing authority of KRS 314.011 (Schedule III – 30 days)

Please see the KBN website: http://kbn.ky.gov/practice/Pages/aprn_practice.aspx
