KBN Review re: Psych Mental Health Prescribing

APRNs certified in psych mental health have had authority to prescribe a 30 day supply of Schedule II psychostimulants since 2006. Up until recently, the law was interpreted to preclude PMHNPs, who were in a private practice, from prescribing a 30 day supply of Schedule II psychostimulants. After careful review of the nursing law (KRS 314.011), the Kentucky Board of Nursing has determined that PHMNPs may prescribe a 30 day supply of Schedule II psychostimulants, regardless of practice setting.
