Prescriptive Authority

APRN PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORITY REGULATION   On April 12, 2011, the Administrative Regulations Review Subcommittee reviewed the proposed amendments to KBN administrative regulation 201 KAR 20:059, Advanced Practice Registered nurse controlled substances prescriptions.  The amendments change the length of time for which a prescription can be written from 14 days to 30 days for the listed drugs: Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax, Soma, and combination hydrocodone products in liquid or solid dosage form.  This change is presently in effect through an emergency regulation.  The administrative regulation will be reviewed by the Joint Committee on Health and Welfare in May.  For more information contact Nathan Goldman, KBN General Counsel, at (502) 429-3309 or
