with AANP President Elect 

Dr. April Kapu DNP, RN, ACNP-BC, FAANP, FCCM, FAAN

Dr. Kapu brings her critical care and leadership experience to work for AANP as states and the nation examine the future role of nurse practitioners in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. 

Kapu is a certified acute care nurse practitioner and professor of clinical nursing for Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She serves as the associate chief nursing officer for advanced practice nursing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In this role, she provides professional practice support for more than 1,200 APRNs. Dr. Kapu has presented at many national conferences and has authored chapters in advanced practice textbooks, as well as published in journals such as the Journal of the American Association of Nurse PractitionersJournal of Nursing AdministrationNurse LeaderCritical Care Nurse, Nursing Management and others. 

In her leadership role for AANP, Kapu will "work to improve national programs, conferences, and initiatives supporting clinical practice, education, research and leadership in advanced practice.”
